We had a fun 4th of July. We started out the day by going to the church for breakfast with our ward. Pancakes, bacon, eggs and cinnamon rolls--yummy! The only thing better than having breakfast on a holiday is having someone else make it for you!
After breakfast and visiting with neighbors, we came back home to rest and let the kids have a nap. Then we went to have a BBQ with Ross's brother, Don, and his family. Leah had a ball playing with Tyler and Gavin. After dinner the boys showed Leah how to do sparklers. She thought that was pretty cool.
Then we drove downtown to catch the end of the baseball game and see the fireworks.
We walked into the stadium during the 7th inning stretch. At that time, the score was tied 3-3. As the game went on, there was no more scoring and we were getting a little worried that a long game with a large restless crowd was going to get longer if we had to endure extra innings. Then at the bottom of the 9th inning, the Bees' lead-off hitter got a stand-up triple. Next the visiting team intentionally walked the next two hitters in order to fill up the bases and be able to force an out. So, the Bees brought in their designated hitter to take the plate. And on his first pitch, he it a grand slam home run to end the game. The crowd went wild! I'm still not sure if they were more excited about the home run or the fact that the game was finally over. After the game, we got to go out onto the field to watch the fireworks. We were able to just lay on the grass and look up at the fireworks over head. It was a great view.
Waiting all that time for the fireworks was not disappointing. It was a great show! One of the best firework shows I've seen. About half way through the fireworks, Leah turned to me and said, "Mommy, this is the best trip ever!" Everyone else agreed that coming to the fireworks at the baseball game was a great idea. Here's a picture of our group all together.
And as a bonus...because the Bees hit a grand slam home run, we were able to take our tickets to a Denny's restaurant and get free Grand Slam Breakfast meals! So here's Ross about to dig into his free meal. Score! Thank you Bees!
