Corbin's 2nd Birthday

At the beginning of March, our little man turned 2 years old! On his birthday, we had some family over for dinner, and cake and cake and ice cream, of course. I don't think Corbin entirely understood what was going on, but he sure loved all the excitement. 

There were more than enough children ready to help him open his presents!

He wasn't too sure what to do with the candle. He ended up blowing it out with the air he blew threw his nose. He couldn't figure out out to blow threw his mouth instead. It was kind of funny!

Instead of an actual cake, I made Oreo Mickey Mouse cupcakes for him like I did for Leah's 3rd birthday.

Before Grandpa left, he gave the kids some horsey rides. This is one of their favorite things to do with him.

On the weekend, we went to my parents house and had another party for him with more of my family. 

He had a great birthday celebration and got lots of fun gifts. He's such a fun and typical 2 year old little boy.

One of the major things we've been working on with Corbin since he turned 2 has been his speech. At his 2 year check-up he had a vocabulary of about 10-12 words. Mostly all he ever said was "daddy," "ball," and "mommy." So Ross got in touch with the audiologist that he works with and we got him in for a hearing evaluation. He didn't pass the hearing tests consistently and showed symptoms of having excessive fluid in his ears. So we worked with his pediatrician to use some medication to help clear up his ears. In the mean time, we contacted an early intervention program and got him working with a speech therapist. We took him in monthly for hearing evaluations, and by May he was able to pass all of the hearing tests. The speech therapist comes to our home twice a month to work with him and to teach us strategies to help him also. In the past six months, he has come leaps and bounds from where he was before. Some things are still very hard to understand. And he only uses one or two word phrases. But he is doing so much better than he was. He now imitates almost everything we say. And he communicates with us a lot. He loves to say prayer and sing songs. I'm so glad we got him this extra help.

Other things about our Corbin boy...he loves to play ball and has a lot of natural athletic ability. One of his favorite things to do is just to run. He has great stamina. His legs are short, but they move very fast and he can run for a long time before he gets tired. It is so fun to watch (unless he's running away from me). I'm excited to see him try some team sports when he gets a little older.

He loves to play with cars. He is absolutely obsessed with Lightning McQueen right now. He likes to watch the movie every chance he gets and wants to take is McQueen car everywhere with him, even to bed.

He's very methodical when he plays with his cars. He lines them up, usually on the couch, and will then move them one by one until they are lined up on the other side of the couch. He will do this over and over again. It keeps him entertained for a long time as long as no one bothers him or touches his cars.

Corbin is not very good at playing with kids his own age, but loves to play with kids older than him. He adores Leah, and will copy anything she does. And he loves to play with his older boy cousins. He will follow them around and do everything they do. I swear he thinks he's bigger than he really is.

Corbin loves to play with our smartphones. Whenever he gets one, the first thing he always goes to is the YouTube app to watch Mickey, McQueen, or Inside Out videos. I like to teasingly call him "My YouTube Junkie."

He is a great big brother for Paige. He likes to get in her face and say "Hi Paige!" He loves her very much. It will be fun to see them playing together when they both get older. Although I'm a little nervous for when she gets mobile and starts grabbing his things. It's likely going to turn ugly while they have to learn how to play nicely together.

All and all Corbin is a fun little 2 year old boy. And we are so glad to have him as part of our family!
