Ross's birthday fell on a Sunday this year. So we had a fun weekend celebrating his big day.
After he got off work on Friday, we took a little drive up the canyon to see some of the changing colors and hike around Cascade Springs. The kids loved running around on the boardwalks, especially Corbin (hiking usually isn't Leah's favorite thing and she gets tired of it before long).
At this late in the year, the water level was quite low, but it was still pretty to see it cascading down the hillside. Our budding photographer took this picture of us. We'll have to recruit her to take pictures more often when we are on family outings.
Corbin loved getting right up to the edge of the boardwalk to look over at the water below. This made me really nervous because he's still pretty top-heavy. But it was also so cute that I loved getting pictures of him doing it.
On Sunday, we invited his mom over for dinner and some birthday dessert. Just before dessert, my family did a video call with us so they could wish Ross a happy birthday. So they were able to join us in singing "Happy Birthday" and watching him blow out his candles.
Leah was so excited for her dad to have a birthday. She kept asking when we were going to have a party and what games we were going to play. She was having a hard time understanding that a grown-up's birthday party is much different than a 4-year-olds. We did put up a birthday banner and at Leah's insistence, we blew up some balloons. Playing with the balloons was Leah and Corbin's favorite part of their daddy's birthday. On Monday, we were invited by Ross's sister, Norma, to come over for a birthday dinner in Ross's honor. She is always so good at making Ross feel special for his birthday.
And then on Tuesday, Ross and I were finally able to go out for a birthday dinner date. We enjoyed a very yummy dinner at The Olive Garden while his mom watched the kids for us. It is always so nice when we can get some one-on-one time together.
I hope that Ross had a nice birthday and that he was able to feel special that weekend. He is such an important part of our family and we love him very much!!
