Thanksgiving 2013

Each night at our family scripture time, we try to read one verse with Leah and then talk briefly about it. For the month of November, we decided to focus on scriptures that talked about being thankful or gratitude. So I had an idea for Thanksgiving this year. First I made this cute turkey.
Then I traced a hand for each of us and cut them out in a variety of fall colors to be the feathers for our turkey. And each night along with our scripture time, we would each share something that we were grateful for that day. Then we would write that thing down on a hand-shaped feather that we added to our turkey.

So when Thanksgiving came we had a nice big turkey filled with all the things that our family was thankful for. I tried to get a picture of it each week so we could see how it grew.
Most of the things shared were things you would expect (family members, friends, aspects of the gospel, things in nature, etc.) But it was still fun to see what would be shared each night, especially from Leah. She would be thankful for one or two of her friends (although she tried to just say she was thankful for Millie each night until she finally caught on that she had to pick something new each night), her toys and even random things around the house (our TV, our clock, wall decorations).

We even included things we thought Corbin would say he's thankful for. We just tried to pick things that we knew made him happy like hugs, kisses, Leah, toys, baths, balloons, Mommy and Daddy.

Some of my favorites included the night that Leah spilled a pitcher of red juice on the floor and I said I was thankful for "our laminate floor" because if we still had the carpet it would have been badly stained. Or the night we were in the car talking about the things we were thankful for and Leah said she was thankful for "Del Taco" (we happened to be driving by it just then). In her defense, she really does like Del Taco because she loves to play on the playground. And you could tell that it was cold out when we did this because Ross would often say things like "warm baths and showers," "warm clothes" and "good weather."

Here's a picture of Leah with our turkey (one of the things she was thankful for, by the way).
Oh...and I don't remember much about actual Thanksgiving Day other than that we went to my parents' house for dinner with all my siblings and their families. Thanksgiving dinner has never been one of my favorite meals. Maybe that's why nothing in particular stands out in my memory from that day.
